Roland Winston (1936-2025)
Chair Emeritus, Univ. of California, Merced (United States)
Prof. Winston was a pioneer in nonimaging optics and solar energy. He invented the compound parabolic concentrator (CPC), and founded the field of nonimaging optics. He established the Nonimaging Optics Conference, and remained Chair Emeritus until his passing in early 2025 at the age of 88. His legacy continues to inspire the conference and the field of nonimaging optics.
