Welcome to the Nonimaging Optics Design Competition Portal!

In this portal, you can test and submit your concentrator designs for the Nonimaging Optics Design Competition 2025.

The challenge: Design a reflective solar concentrator with the highest possible efficiency, but designed for a sun with the shape "XX" instead of the regular round shape.

Quick Start

We recommend reading the full instructions. However, if you want to test the competition portal, you can use one of the following options to get a CAD file to upload:
  • Python example - Use Python and the Build123d library to generate a STEP file of a parabola (or any other parametric shape) that you can test in the portal
  • Download example STEP file - Get a feel for the design challenge with an example STEP file of a parabola (the same one generated by the Python example code above)
  • LightTools template project - Example project to get started with the commercial optical design software LightTools
